Strengthening Collaboration for Safer Medical Products at Points of Entry

Nairobi, KENYA – 10th April 2025 – The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), under the leadership of CEO Dr. F.M. Siyoi, thursday 10th April 2025  hosted representatives from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), and KenTrade to reinforce inter-agency collaboration in the regulation of medical products at points of entry.

Dr. Siyoi emphasized the importance of joint efforts in ensuring that all medical products entering the country are safe, efficacious, and of assured quality—aligned with PPB’s core mandate of promoting and protecting public health. He underscored that achieving the World Health Organization’s Maturity Level 3 (WHO ML3) requires the active participation of all regulatory stakeholders. Sharing information and coordinating efforts, particularly in pre-authorization processes and intelligence sharing, were highlighted as critical steps in overcoming current regulatory challenges.

The KRA delegation was led by Laura Chao, Chief Manager, Revenue Monitoring Unit, Customs & Border Control; the KenTrade team by Fridah Kaberia, Director of Strategy & Business Development; and the KEBS team by Eric Ochieng, Chief Manager, Quality Inspection Department. All teams reiterated their commitment to complement each other’s roles in securing the integrity of the country’s medical product supply chain and ensuring that only safe and compliant health technologies reach the Kenyan market. PPB Directors of HPTs Dr Ahmed Mohamed and Dr Antony Toroitich (Corporate Services) attended the meeting among others.
