Nairobi, Kenya – In a decisive move to combat illegal practices within the pharmaceutical sector, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has launched a nationwide operation targeting regulated pharmaceutical entities.

Led by the PPB, this joint multi-agency operation has already achieved significant milestones, conducting thorough inspections at 400 premises and seizing 200 cartons of assorted medicines. These efforts are part of a wider initiative aimed at upholding regulatory standards and safeguarding public health.

Initiated in response to 25 Presidential Directives aimed at tackling illicit brews, alcohol, drug, and substance abuse, the operation is primarily focused on ensuring compliance with Good Distribution Practices.

Dr. Fred Siyoi, CEO of PPB, in a press statement on 12th April emphasized the Board’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the integrity of the pharmaceutical industry and safeguarding citizens’ well-being. “Moving forward, the Board will continue to collaborate with other government agencies to root out illegal pharmaceutical outlets across the country,” stated Dr. Siyoi.

To promote compliance and adherence, the Board has released a comprehensive list of registered pharmaceutical outlets, accessible throughย https://practice.pharmacyboardkenya.org/LicenseStatus?register=facilities. Dr. Siyoi urged the public to exercise caution when purchasing pharmaceuticals and to only buy from licensed and reputable sources.

Additionally, healthcare facilities handling pharmaceuticals are reminded to adhere strictly to proper disposal protocols and to report any suspicious activities to the PPB.

Dr. Siyoi advised all registered pharmaceutical practitioners to stay updated with regulatory provisions governing the prescription and dispensing of controlled medicines. He emphasized the importance of compliance with these regulations to ensure the highest standards of patient care and safety.
