DRAFT GUIDELINES FOR DIGITAL PHARMACY SERVICES IN KENYA
The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) is the National Regulatory Authority (NRA) established under the Pharmacy and Poisons Act, Chapter 244, Laws of Kenya. The Board is mandated to protect and promote public health by regulating the practice of pharmacy and ensuring that pharmaceutical services in Kenya meet the highest standards of quality, safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness.
In fulfilling this mandate, the PPB is committed to advancing pharmacy practice in line with globally accepted standards and evolving healthcare needs. This is consistent with Article 43(1)(a) of the Constitution of Kenya, which guarantees every individual the right to the highest attainable standard of health, including access to healthcare services.
The healthcare landscape is rapidly transforming, driven by advancements in digital technologies, increasing demand for accessible healthcare services, and the need for more patient-centered care models. Digital health innovations—including telepharmacy, electronic prescribing, and digital health records—are redefining how pharmaceutical services are delivered, accessed, and managed.
These developments present both opportunities and responsibilities for the pharmacy profession to adapt and maintain high standards of practice.
