The Chairperson of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), Dr. John M. Munyu, MBS, is calling upon pharmaceutical professionals to uphold the highest standards of ethics, professionalism and regulatory compliance as Kenya advances reforms to strengthen patient safety and secure the pharmaceutical supply chain.

Speaking during the 22nd Kenya Pharmaceutical Association Scientific Conference in Mombasa on 30th July 2026 Dr. Munyu said regulators and pharmaceutical professionals share a common responsibility to ensure every Kenyan has access to safe, effective and quality-assured medicines through a strong and trusted regulatory system.

The conference was officially opened by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, CBS, and brought together pharmaceutical professionals, regulators, academia and industry stakeholders under the theme, “Optimising Pharmaceutical Practice to Advance Patient Safety, Medicine Access and Healthcare Excellence.” Also in attendance were Kenya Pharmaceutical Association President Chitchi Aman, Secretary General Eric Gichane, and other leaders from the pharmaceutical sector.

Dr. Munyu said the Board’s ongoing institutional reforms are building a modern, efficient and internationally recognised National Medicines Regulatory Authority while creating a transparent and predictable regulatory environment that protects public health and supports ethical pharmaceutical practice.

He is called on pharmacists, pharmaceutical technologists and proprietors to comply with Good Storage and Distribution Practice (GSDP) standards and to embrace the implementation of the National Authentication and Traceability System, Practice360 and Facility360, which take effect from 3 August 2026. He urged all licensed professionals and pharmaceutical establishments to complete onboarding by 31 October 2026 ahead of the 2027 licensing cycle.

Dr. Munyu said the Board will continue working with stakeholders to strengthen compliance, enhance regulatory oversight and promote ethical pharmaceutical practice in support of safe, quality healthcare for all Kenyans.
